Video game pioneer Will Wright, the creator of “SimCity” and “Spore,” will lead “Why Games are (Good) for Learning,” a discussion on how digital games encourage learning, on Wednesday, February 17, 6 – 7 p.m. at the Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University, 566 LaGuardia Place (at Washington Square South). The event, presented by the Games for Learning Institute (G4LI) is free and open to the public, but a ticket is required for entry and seating is limited. Wright, awarded the PC Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, has been called one of the most important people in gaming, technology, and entertainment by publications such as Entertainment Weekly, Time, PC Gamer, Discover, and GameSpy. In 2009, he left publisher Electronic Arts to form his own think tank for the future of games, toys, and entertainment—the Stupid Fun Club.

Brick Internships for Sp2010

Interns will assist the video editor with various news pieces, including breaking news, campus news, and the arts. Interns should be familiar with Final Cut (preferred), iMovie, Avid, or Adobe Premiere Pro. Interns will gain knowledge about video editing software and how to structure a video news piece. Interns will be also helping with Brick TV on PTV, our weekly news show on our campus television station. Students who have taken Broadcast Journalism classes are strongly recommended to apply. We are also looking for New Media or Media Society and the Arts majors, but anyone is welcome to apply if you have a passion for producing news videos. Attendance at weekly meetings is required.

Marketing and Production intern
Intern to help develop relationships with partner organizations and community groups to distribute current and future media projects by People’s Television. Other responsibilities include helping to manage our online presence, including our own websites/blogs and presence on social networking and video sites. Intern may assist in areas of fundraising, research, grantwriting, permissions, locations, script revising, etc. for feature projects currently in development by People’s Television.
This position is open to students of all majors (with 30+ credits). Only requirement is strong communication skills and an interest in social media projects.
The internship bears 4 upper-level credits for 5-10 hours/week. The internship is unpaid, all travel and expenses will be reimbursed.

As part of the citywide biennial performance art festival, PERFORMA 09, Eyebeam will present an event featuring media artists who “perform the web” – bringing together net art pioneers JODI with emerging artists from Eyebeam’s studios, senior fellow Jeff Crouse and research associate Aaron Meyers. The Performa 09 event, Friday, November 20, at 8PM, will highlight work that speaks to the speed of, and ruptures in, social media and user generated web platforms. The evening will feature Jeff Crouse and Aaron Meyers’ high-energy, augmented reality game show, The World Series of ‘Tubing; and JODI’s The Folksomy Project, a performative audiovisual deconstruction of YouTube.

Good team players with a passionate interest in contemporary art, and a good knowled ge of the commercial as well as of the public sector.
