Website Design Opportunity

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

[Posted for Aaron Hawkins, a recent New Media Purchase graduate]

As a recent graduate of Purchase College, I figured I would take this great job opportunity here first, where I know there is a large amount of creative talent and people looking to gain real business-world experience.

My employer is a high-end jewelry designer based out of Manhattan. We are currently seeking a web designer/dev that is experienced, talented and capable of building an ecommerce website from the ground up. Familiarity with ecommerce platforms such as Magento or ZenCart would be a plus, or experience with writing similar backend modules. This task would require an extensive knowledge of html, PHP, Java and possibly flash. The timeline is limited to having a functional website capable of transacting sales within a month, with further front-end design and applications to follow soon after. This is not the job for an amateur or web design hobbyist, but rather someone who is career oriented. If you are capable of offering near-full-time employment and high-caliber work, please contact me at AaronHawkins1088@gmail.com with examples or a portfolio and your contact information. Knowledge of the jewelry business is not required, and maintenance of the site in the future would be minimal. The salary offered would be competitive and travel would not be necessary. Please feel free to contact me for any additional information about the project.

Furthermore, along with recreating our company’s website we are also working on redesigning our logo and image. If you feel you have adequate abilities in graphic design, dealing with text and logos, you may also contact me with examples of your work, along with a timeline and quote for your standard 2 unique concepts / 2 revisions package. An extremely proficient knowledge of Illustrator and CS+ is required, along with the ability to visually recreate ideas and concepts from a designer.

La Americana Screening

Monday, August 31st, 2009

La Americana, a film by Nicholas Bruckman, a new media graduate at the Jacob Burns Center in Pleasantville. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Nick and a dessert reception!  It is part of “Latin Links: Celebrating Cultural Connections

The incredibly haunting story of Carmen, a Bolivian mother who lives with the reality that the only way to make enough money to provide for her disabled daughter is to leave her behind and come to the US to work. A tightly made, dramatic documentary that exposes the horrors of our present immigration system. The film, which has a terrific soundtrack, has won many festival awards, including Best Documentary at the NY Latino Film Festival.

A Note From Ray Roy (class of '06)

Hello Friends!Since graduating from Purchase College (Cum Laude, no less!) my life has been a whirlwind! I moved my life to Baltimore over the summer where I had a real life experience with Wham City (www.myspace.com/ whamcity or whamcity.com, we won Best in Baltimore ‘06 for best Arts Collective!). While in Baltimore I often swam in a nearby reservoir named after a horse that drowned in it, I incorporated WHAM CITY as a non-profit in the state of Maryland and helped them put on some really fantastic shows, I worked at the Maryland Institute College of Art doing grant and prospect research to help them raise money for arts & education, and I also met John Waters and put a DVD of some of my more explicit and perverse video art in his hands!

…and now I have moved BACK to NEW YORK and am working on several projects which will be showing rather soon!!!

The first is PROGRESSIVE COMA by Johannes Wieland! Below is the card for the show!

I am also working with John Jesurun again (experimental playwright I worked with him last year at NYU), this time at New School University on his new play, “Firefall, part A”, and soon after that I will go to Mexico for a week with choreographer (and Purchase Alumnus) Ofelia Loret de Mola as an artistic collaborator. And I think in April I am doing video for another playwright at La MaMa in BAM (but that seems so far away right now!)

But I wanted to give you all specifics about this upcoming work at Alvin Ailey, since I am usually so bad at telling anybody about what I am doing in time for them to do anything about it!

Anyways! Happy Holidays! Hope all is well!
