Featured Speaker: Anna Anthropy
2:30–3:00 PM
auntiepixelante.com

Anna Anthropy is an American video game designer and critic. Her freeware games include Mighty Jill Off, REDDER, and Lesbian Spider Queens of Mars, and she is a co-founder and associate editor of The Gamer’s Quarter. Her games explore the relationship between sadism and game design; Anthropy’s games challenge players’ expectations of what the developer should create and how the player should be reprimanded for errors. As a transgender woman, Anna Anthropy represents the underrepresented in video game culture. Rise of the Videogame Zinesters, released earlier this year through Seven Stories Press, promotes the idea of “small, interesting, personal experiences by hobbyist authors … Zinesters exists to be a kind of ambassador for that idea of what video games can be.” The book also deals with a detailed analysis of the mechanics and potentialities of digital games, including the idea that games can be more usefully compared to theater than film. Anthrophy attended Purchase College for a short time, and will be premiering her new book, Star Wench, at Zinefeast!

Featured Speaker: Dean Haspiel
4:00–5:30 PM
deanhaspiel.com

Dean Haspiel is an American comic artist. He is known for his collaborations with writer Harvey Pekar on his American Splendor series as well as the graphic novel The Quitter. He has been nominated for numerous Eisner Awards, and won a 2010 Emmy Award for TV design work for HBO’s Bored to Death. Haspiel is a SUNY Purchase alumni who did cartoons for The Load (Purchase’s first campus publication). He will be discussing an exciting project centered around a 20th anniversary of the various artists featured in The Load from his time at SUNY Purchase; visit Trip City for more information.

diy days NYC Saturday, April 27 The New School – 66 W 12th St. diy days is a roving event for those who create. FREE to participants and organized by volunteers – diy days is about the accessibility of ideas, resources and networking that can enable creators to fund, create, distribute and sustain. Registration: http://diydaysnyc2013.eventbrite.com. For more information, visit http://www.nyc.diydays.com. For over five years, diy days has delivered its day of world-class speakers and workshops to cities all around the United States, including LA, NYC, San Francisco, Boston and Philadelphia. Unlike most conferences, diy days is FREE to participants and organized entirely by volunteers. The only requirement for attendees is to bring their imagination, curiosity, and desire to learn new things and make new connections. Last year´s New York event–with 600+ attendees, 30 sessions, and 20 speakers–outgrew all prior nine events by a staggering 50%. The call to action for the day was Buckminster Fuller´s wish to “make the world work for 100% of humanity.” This attracted an interdisciplinary mix of activists, storytellers, creative producers, scientists and designers. This year´s event is loosely organized around the theme of `The role of creativity in social good´ and is organized into 3 sections: Learn, Do, Share.
